I’m the Team Leader for VIT World in Second Life. We are a research group searching for better ways to find, store, retrieve and analyze information to in turn create knowledge faster. We believe that everything boils down to information and with the right information one can do anything. Mind mapping technology is the core technology we are using to achieve our goals. We are using the 3D Second Life Platform to display mind maps in 3D and the power of group think to analyze them.
A new project that is just being launch is the library of the future. We are merging the VIT World projects with the Rockcliffe University Library project. As part of this project, we are experimenting with holodeck technology to create an immersive database which is a database that one can walk around in. We plan to use this database to immersive the user in information. We will be expanding the use and scope of mind mapping technology in the development of the library of tomorrow. Initially, it will function as the index or catalog for the library.
Currently, we have the largest mind map of virtual space information that we know of. It contains about 2,000 topics and thousands of links to websites, articles, conferences, books etc.
For a overview of our project please refer to a white paper I wrote at: http://www.urockcliffe.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=115&Itemid=188
Our use of mind mapping technology is extensive and expanding.
