imindmap, mindmap, mind map, visual map, buzan, tony buzanThe Buzan organization recently announced that it will release an incremental update to iMindMap 4 in early to mid-October. This new version will offer the following new and improved features:

iMindMap template system: iMindMap 4.1 will now support templates. It will ship with 21 new templates, and you can create and store your own as well. The developer also says that you will be able to import iMindMap template packs into the program, which implies that it will be offering such add-ons in the future.

Export audio notes: Previous versions of iMindMap have included the ability to add audio notes to map topics. Version 4.1 will enable you to export them as .wav files so that you can use them outside of the program, share them with others or even send them to be transcribed.

Improved presentation view: The presentation view of iMindMap 4.1 has been enhanced for improved usability. It can be set up so that your files and web page links are automatically opened for you in presentation mode. You will be able to start your presentation from any point in your map. In addition, audio notes will be playable in presentation view.

Additional central idea images: iMindMap 4.1 will include a selection of new central idea images to give your mind maps greater visual impact.

Import and export OPML: iMindMap 4.1 adds the ability to import and export information in the Outline Processor Markup Language, or OPML. This is an XML format that is growing in popularity and is used for outlining documents that contain hierarchical data, such as web feeds and text outlines. You can also import data from outlining applications like OmniOutliner.

3 new languages: iMindMap 4.1 adds support for 3 new languages – Portuguese (Brazilian), Swedish and Danish – bringing the total number of languages it supports to 15.

iMindMap 4.1 will be a free upgrade for existing users of version 4.0.

  1. Except that I had version 3.1 which no longer works since I installed Snow Leopard on my Mac. Instead of offering a bug fix, Buzan now forces me to pay for the upgrade. How much is that, well the website won’t tell you. So now I have a piece of software I paid for, but cannot use.
The program is good, but the way they are trying to get more and more money from you is ridiculous.

  2. I like the latest 4.1 version in that it allows a fuss-free method of saving to powerpoint. However, some resolution is lost during the conversion. It this the way it is?

Also, for better value, the next free upgrade for this Professional version should allow branches to collapse or expand in powerpoint just like it does now for the Ultimate version. THIS WOULD REALLY GIVE USERS THEIR MONEY’S WORTH!
