I guess if you use the Tony Buzan software on your desktop Imindmapping works well. But you if you want a standalone mindmapping software for the iphone stick to Ithoughts!

A mind map is a window into the CREATOR'S brain! so unless you actually present your mindmaps to people, I find that they have a hard time following the maps which are basically a graphical representation of how the map creator's mind sees the topic.

With Ithoughts you can email your mindmap converted automatically to an outline so the recipient can more quickly understand the point your trying to make.

[...] In May, Buzan Online launched version 4.0 of iMindMap, which featured a powerful new presentation mode, which incorporates a two-screen setup (as presenter, you see the slide and your notes; your audience sees only the current slide), audio notes, floating topics, enhanced support for importing Word documents into mind maps, and printing improvements for large maps. In October, the developer released iMindMap version 4.1, with 21 new map templates, and support for importing and exporting OPML files (a form of XML used for outlining documents that contain hierarchical data, such as web feeds and text outlines). In general, iMindMap became more business focused in its features and functionality during 2009. Click here for my review of iMindMap version 4. [...]

Have just decided to upgrade to iMindMap v4 Ultimate even though some of the features, such as Export to Interactive Presentation, are not available for Mac users. What I did like is that the interface is still remarkably simple to navigate and they have now implemented drag and drop for a wide variety of files and links onto branches, which is very intuitive and does not interrupt my flow of ideas.
I am also a user of NovaMind, which I originally bought when there were few mindmapping programs for Macs. But in comparison with iMindMap, I find the UI difficult to navigate and overly complex.
As an existing iMindMap v3 owner, I used the discount coupon that was emailed to me at the end of April and upgraded to v4 for less than 15% of the cost of the program as a first time purchaser. Well done for the developers in considering existing customers.

The Buzan organization shall take the reigns again of what is now being called the Visual mapping arena.
We've moved on from hand drawn Mind mapping, and the Buzan organization have tapped into the potential for enabling traditional Buzan mapping to take hold of the Visual mapping opportunities of this century.
We must needs, give great respect to Tony Buzan for his formalizing of the tools and techniques of Mind mapping. History shall record his great accomplishments relating to Knowledge management, and honour him for many generations.

What about those of us who already own v3? Are we going to have to pay for the upgrade? I wrote the company to ask them but never heard back.

P.S. I forgot just TWO things!!

What about a simple 'print notes'.... forget it!! The second one... If you wanna draw great looking maps using software you have but TWO choices... ArtRage 2 which is a graphics programme that requires skill... or iMindMap!!It's maps are second to none!!

A good review...but...

What about it's exporting capabilities?

I spent hours last week making a beautiful map with pictures and sketches. It was for a project at a school where I work so I wanted it to look MORE than good. I wanted it to look EXCELLENT!!

AND IT WAS!! It wouldn't have looked better if I had drawn it by hand.

I would normally take a hand drawn map and then use it to create the document or the files that I needed, but the map was so good that I decided to continue to use iMindMap.

I added notes and within the notes numbered text, quotes, bold... I then hit export to word.

And then arrived the disappointment. A mess of unfomatted text. I then had to spend twice as long redoing the document. I have sent a complaint... they will pass on the "suggestion"...

Then of course, if you add an image to the notes... a normal thing to do... it gives an error in the exporting process...

What about creating a 'freehand/organic map' with curves etc and then doing a speed mapping session... obviously you loose the freestyle map that you created with NO way of getting it back....

Or go into notes mode and look for your formatting... it's gone also.

Obviously I am writing about V.3 and not version 4... maybe they will correct the problems

Wow - I want it. Version 3 of iMindMap was a big leap forward, and version 4 sounds even better. It has been amazing to watch how iMindMap has developed so much in just two years since it was released.

I love the fact that it is true to what it has been designed for - to enhance my abilty to think. So many other tools have lost the whole point of what mind mapping software is about.

I'm not saying it is perfect and whilst I don;t use other tools, there are some features that iMindMap doesn't have, which I would like - but the great thing is that at the speed the team at Buzan have been improving the software, and the regular update releases, I am sure that iMindMap will have them soon.

I can't wait to use the new presentation mode - it looked fantastic in your video and what a good idea to be able to add notes to branches using audio.
