Web-based mind mapping application Mindomo just announced a major update. Most notable is the adoption of the Microsoft Office Fluent UI (otherwise known as a ribbon toolbar), which looks like a very clean implementation. Oh, yes, and it can be minimized to make more room for your maps – cool!

Other new features in Mindomo include:

• The ability to open and utilize multiple maps in a tabbed interface.
• A spell checker (premium version only) with support for 11 languages
• The ability to view a map in a full screen view, especially useful for presentations
• Map locking, to prevent simultaneous editing
• Several new types of boundaries, to group topics together visually
• An entire family of relationship line styles
• Support for multiple link types, including web page, FTP, local file, e-mail and Skype links
• The addition of an application menu that handles common file operations such as creating a new map, opening an existing one, saving and printing your maps. It also displays a list of recent documents, a real time saver!

This update represents a major leap forward for Mindomo, and is another example of how web-based visual mapping tool are slowly but surely closing the gap between themselves and desktop-based programs.
