How do you think that they justify the subscription price? What exactly do I get for the nearly $50 a year, when other programs just charge a 1-time fee? I recognize that the base version is free, but I hesitate to even download it because I am not willing to sign up for a subscription where (apparently) the only value is in getting something that should really be built-in if you pay for it.

Chuck, thank you for this. Excellent product review, very helpful to me as I've been using freemind but haven't been aware of several great functions. Thanks again.

thpope, it's always difficult when you get used to a certain package. Have you taken XMind for a test drive?

Hi Chuck - Thanks for the product review. While not 'news', you've done us all a great service by highlighting the merits of XMind. From memory it's one of the few mindmapping tools which runs identically on Windows, Mac and Linux. The price is not the only attraction - it's flexibility in licensing. While I am very happy with MindJet's products I can't justify buying a license for each of the several computers I work across. Novamind at least recognises that with a license which offers "2 seats: 1 for work and 1 for home"

This is old news....

There are few things which are more annoying to me than old news being served up as new.
Please don't include old news in your email updates. It wastes my time.

Thanks

FreeMind isn't bad, just a little quirky. I think XMind is more polished and intuitive in many ways.
