A growing number of mind mapping software developers are adding collaboration capabilities to their programs. Visual Mind has offered a client-server version of its software for a number of years. Mindjet has Catalyst. MatchWare (the developers of MindView) recently launched their Shared Workspace. And of course, web-based mind mapping tools like MindMeister, Mindomo and Mind42 have enabled collaboration right from the start – one advantage of a web 2.0 application. All of this focus on collaboration begs the question:
How do you collaborate with mind mapping software?
- What types of projects do you collaborate on?
- What types of content are you collaborating on? Tasks? Group brainstorming of ideas? Or something else?
- How do you share your mind maps – via e-mail, posting maps on a shared network directory or in an online map sharing environment? If the latter, how effective has that been for you?
- Or do you just work on mind maps by yourself?
Please share some of the details, so we can all learn from your experiences!

Whilst it was managed it was a useful map.
Mindjet Catalyst has been great with teams recording and publishing business events during preparation, collation and publication. The teams have included mind mappers, video, photographers and web designers.

I do believe SaaS will become more exposed in the cloud and that real-time collaboration will be the hidden gem for many information managers who need to monetize their time management and communication processes.
As Chuck has asked the questions relating to the narrow Mind mapping arena, I would say there are a few products that are in the cloud at this time that show promise.
MindMeister is extremely untidy when it gets busy with information being pumped into it; I tried it for a period of time, and my clients and colleagues unanimously rejected it due to the poor screen build qualities.
The synchronization between desktop and cloud is where the power of collaboration shall be seen IMO.
Regarding Mindjet Catalyst (awful renaming of Connect) I haven’t actually come across a great number of users in my travels at all. Mindjet purists will be loyal to the product for sure (and Mindjet is the deserved leader). I used Mindjet Connect as my front (virtual) office, and I was so disappointed when they rebranded and removed the structure of MJ Connect (please bring it back).
Three (3) really affordable products that will capture the attention of whole brain thinkers for sure IMO; they are: Comapping, Crystal Mapping and Goalscape.
These mentioned products cover Personal Knowledge Management (PKM), they are way more affordable than some of the mainstream products offerings, and are craftily leaning towards integration with process, system and project management.
